Taking this course along with the OMDE601 has turned out to be a great challenge but also a great learning experience. It seems that the two courses go hand in hand. The things I read or learn in one course are very helpful and come in handy for the other and vice versa. I have read about the basice context and historical context of distance education (Moore & Kearsley, 2011,Distance Education: A Systems View of Online Learning, 3rd Edition) and have been able to use it in both courses. I have also learned the many definitions that most of us have for distance education and how far along distance education has come from just being correspondence education. Prior to this courses I personally defined distance education as e-learning but have comed to realize that it is much more than that. E-learning is only called that because it is in the online environment. But what about those countries like El Salvador who do not have access to computers? Their way of obtaining it is by attending class once a week and taking a week's worth of homework home. That is distance education. I am thankful that I live in a country where I am able to pursue my degree via online because any other way would not work for me.
I had to travel on a family emergency and have been away for about 2 weeks. I am back and working on tackling all these class assignments that seem to have piled on. I hope that I can catch up and get a decent grade. A "C" is not an option which means I have to work extra hard. Wish me luck because I will definitely need it. I feel lost just reading the posts and the assignments due. The worst part is that it's not only one class I have to catch up on but TWO!!!
